A Family Meal with our Men’s Buyer Jeremy

At Incu, we believe nothing connects people more deeply than sharing a meal together — it’s the whole theme behind our Holiday season campaign “The Gift of Gathering”. Our Menswear Buyer Jeremy shares the same philosophy, so we joined him and his family at Marrickville cafe Superfreak to chat about all things holiday season, the role of food and community at Incu and the brands he’s most excited about right now.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO BUYING?

I kind of fell into it. I started doing design — I actually wanted to design a skate brand and own a skateboard
company when I was quite young. So I had designed menswear for a while and then I actually just fell into
Buying. It was almost going to be a temporary thing, and now I’ve been doing it for 15 years, a long time.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?

Incu has been around for over 20 years and we’re really lucky to have a whole range of legacy customers who
have been shopping with us for a really long time. I want to be able to dress those people as much as I want to
dress people who are just getting into fashion. So I think I have a very open, but optimistic view towards how
men can dress in Australia: keeping it pretty relaxed and easy to wear, and I think the main thing is just finding
something that you feel good wearing.

WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THIS SEASON?

Personally, I’m a bit obsessed with fabrics, how things feel and how things drape — so yeah, really into brands
like Comoli and Auralee where most of the work they do is in the production and crafting stage. That's what
excites me at the moment.

WHAT ROLE DOES FOOD AND COMMUNITY PLAY AT INCU?

In Buying we get to travel as a team we spend a lot of time together. When we go to Paris we are super busy, so we
start the day with a little breakfast together, which is always nice. We work out what we’re doing throughout the day,
we plan our day together and then we might not see each other for 10 hours as we each go to 10 different
appointments and shows around the city. But then there’s that nice moment when we regroup in the evening and go
out for a meal or have a drink — it’s the one thing that brings us together. Besides clothes, of course.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL TO COOK?

I like to cook a lot. I’m not a very good cook, but I enjoy the journey and the process, and being able to feed my
friends and family is nice. When I’ve got time on the weekends, I like to do a little traditional Japanese breakfast
so I salt the salmon during the week and grill it, pickles on the side, and a bit of miso soup. That’s a bit of a
favourite, definitely inspired by CIBI in Melbourne.
